Product Overview

This kit can store up to 350lbs of food.  Use 1 2000cc or 2 1000cc oxygen absorber per 5 gallon bag; for less dense food like pasta or oats, use 4 1000cc oxygen absorbers or 2 2000cc.

Our Mylar® bags are 5 Layer PET/Foil/Poly bags that offer incredible protection from moisture, oxygen and light, 3 of the 4 main factors that determine your food's shelf life (Temperature is the 4th).

Common Questions:

What kinds of foods are good to store long term?

The best long-term storage foods have a moisture content of below 12%.  These includes things like pasta, whole wheat berries, beans and rice.  The less moisture your food starts with, the longer it will store.

How long should I expect food to last?

There are a lot of factors that determine the shelf life of your food.  Food stored in optimum conditions can last 5-10 years or longer!  You want to store your food in a cool, dark, dry place.  Using oxygen absorbers and a barrier bag (Mylar® bag) can greatly extend the shelf life of your food.

How Many Oxygen Absorbers should I use?

Use 300-600cc of oxygen absorber per 1-Gallon Mylar® Bag.

What do I need to store food?

To store food, you will need (in addition to your food):
1) Bucket - Any hard-sided container with a tight fitting lid can substitute.
2) Bucket Lid.
3) Mylar Bags (5 gallon bags are for bulk food storage; if you plan on using your long term storage regularly, 1 or 2 gallon bags are more convenient).
4) Oxygen Absorbers. (Use 300-600cc per 1 gallon bag, and 2000cc-3000cc for a 5 gallon bag)
5) A straight edge, such as a level or 2x4 at least 14” long.
6) A clothes iron or clamshell heat sealer.

Steps:
1) Put Mylar® Bag into bucket. If using a 5 gallon bag in a 5 gallon bucket, you will have a significant amount of material protruding from the bucket. This is normal. All the excess will be folded into the bucket at the end.
2) Heat your iron, setting it on a middle setting if sealing a 3-3.5mil bag, on 3/4 high setting if sealing a 4-5 mil bag, and on high for a 7.5mil bag. (In all cases, test on a corner of a bag to ensure the right setting)
3) Put your oxygen absorber(s) into the Mylar® Bag. It does not matter if it is on top or bottom of the food.
4) Fill Mylar® Bag with food, up to about 1 inch from the top of the bucket. A 5 gallon bag will hold around 30-35 lbs of wheat and rice, 25lbs of beans, and 15lbs of oats.
5) Place the level or straight edge across the top of the bucket, as close to the center as you can. Fold the bag over the level, keeping the surface as smooth as possible ( a little tricky and will take some time to learn).
6) Seal the bag by running the iron across the bag where it is lying on top of the straight edge. The bag should seal very quickly if the iron is hot enough, no more than 1-2 seconds of the iron touching the My-lar.
7) After your seal has cooled, very lightly squeeze the bag. If you can make small ‘bubbles’ or pockets of air, the bag is sealed correctly. If you notice you can squeeze air out of the bag, it is sealed incorrectly. It is very normal to have problems with bags a high percentage of the time when you are first learning to seal them.

    Mylar Bags 5 gallones + 2000cc

Posted by Yarelis Gonzalez on 5th Feb 2020

He comprado bolsas mylar y ninguna a sido tan excelente como estas. Las bolsas son gruesas y tienen el tamaño perfecto para que quepan en una paila de 5 galones. El servicio de envió fue rápido y llegó el día exacto. Bendiciones!

Exactly what I was looking for

I'm impressed! The bags are nice and thick, zip-lock makes it a little easier to keep the excess air out while sealing the bag. O2 absorbers worked well.

    Durable Bag

Posted by Ed E. Alabama on 7th Sep 2015

Had thought about purchasing the 7 mil 5gal bags. Glad I stuck with these 5 mil bags. The kit includes the 2000 oxygen absorbers. No problems sealing with the heat sealer (2 passes) or with a regular clothes iron set on "high". I'm very happy with these bags.

    Love the zip lock bags

Posted by palmbaylou on 31st Aug 2015

What a great idea of making zip lock bags for reuse, the bags and absorbers came well packed and tight. All items are ready for my use as soon as I am ready. It is a great feeling knowing I can reopen these bags as much as needed until I install the absorber and put it away for good.

    Great Product/To Expensive

Posted by Unknown on 13th Feb 2015

This is a great product but I could but the bags at 5 mil and 2000cc Oxygen Absorber not is a kit and saved about one/third the cost. Next time I will buy each Item. We are currently reselling the one Gallon and the 300cc Oxygen Absorber as a kit. for food storage. Would it be possible to get a better price on each. Your company is great. Thanks

    These are great!

Posted by Josh on 17th Sep 2014

I have never purchased mylar bags before, and didn't really know what to expect. I ordered them on a Friday night after midnight, and they were in my mailbox Monday morning! The Oxygen absorbers were missing, but after one email at 11:20 PM, and a reply at 12:38 AM that same evening, they were at my door. Great customer service! The bags themselves were very easy to fill, and since it had a zip seal, it was very easy to vacuum and then heat seal using a vacuum cleaner and clothes iron. I can see individual rice pieces and it reduced the space my oats take up by two or three inches. I'm currently placing another order right now.
