Product Overview

Professional-Grade Oxygen Absorbers Without the Premium Price

Yes, our FreshUS oxygen absorbers really are this inexpensive.

We have sold oxygen absorbers for long-term food storage since 2010, and we buy in volume so we can keep the markup low. A lower price does not mean a lighter-duty absorber.

FreshUS has manufactured food-packaging oxygen absorbers since the 1990s, and its self-reacting absorbers are designed to remove oxygen even in very dry environments.

Our most popular choice: 300cc FreshUS – 50 absorbers for $5.00.

$9.99 flat shipping under $75 • FREE shipping $75+

That means a single 50-pack of 300cc absorbers costs $14.99 delivered.

Why Is Our Price So Much Lower?

We hear this question, and it's fair.

A comparable 50-count package of 300cc absorbers from PackFreshUSA was recently advertised at $16.99 before shipping.*

Our price is lower because we have sold oxygen absorbers in volume for many years and choose to compete on value—not because the absorber has less capacity. In testing, this absorber had an actual capacity of 990cc.  Packfreshusa's 300cc absorber had an actual capacity of 646cc during this same test.  (Source available at the end of this listing so you can verify yourself.)

FreshUS absorbers also come in convenient factory packaging with oxygen indicators so you can verify that the unopened package has remained oxygen-free.

Don't assume cheaper means weaker. Look at the product, the testing and the numbers.

Independently Tested — Don't Just Take Our Word for It

Oxygen absorbers are rated by the amount of oxygen they are guaranteed to absorb. A 300cc absorber should absorb at least 300cc of oxygen.

Independent testing by Phil @ 4800 found 300cc FreshUS absorbers substantially exceeded their labeled capacity (890cc).

That extra capacity matters because it provides a reserve above the advertised rating for normal handling and storage.

We are currently documenting Phil's complete test results and original videos so you can review the measurements and methodology yourself.

Important: We still recommend sizing FreshUS absorbers according to their labeled capacity. Any tested excess capacity should be considered a safety margin—not capacity you need to rely upon.

Which Size Do I Need?

The easy answer:

Dense food = 300cc per 1-gallon bag.
Bulky or freeze-dried food = 500cc per 1-gallon bag.
Not sure what you're storing? = 500cc.

Quick Oxygen Absorber Guide

Container / Food Type Recommended Absorber
Small bags / pint jars 50cc
Quart bags / jars 100cc
1-gallon – rice, beans, wheat and other densely packed foods 300cc
1-gallon – freeze-dried foods, pasta, oats and bulky foods 500cc
2-gallon bags 500cc–1000cc depending on headspace
5-gallon bag / bucket 2000cc

Simple rule:

Dense food = 300cc per gallon.

Bulky or freeze-dried food = 500cc per gallon.

Unsure = 500cc.

Why the difference? Oxygen absorbers remove oxygen from the air inside the package, not from some theoretical bag size. Rice and beans pack relatively densely. Freeze-dried foods, pasta and other bulky foods can leave considerably more trapped air inside the same one-gallon bag.

When in doubt, using more absorber capacity is preferable to using too little.

Why FreshUS?

Self-Reacting

FreshUS S-type absorbers carry what they need to begin reacting and do not depend on moisture from your food to activate.

Approximately One Hour of Handling Time

FreshUS specifies approximately one hour of handling time under normal conditions, giving you time to fill and seal multiple bags without having to panic.

Extremely Low Residual Oxygen

FreshUS is designed to reduce oxygen inside properly sealed packaging to below 0.01%.

Convenient Packaging

Our popular 300cc, 500cc and 2000cc FreshUS absorbers are packaged in small sealed units of 10 (compared to the same absorber from our competitor packed in 50's), helping you avoid exposing dozens of unused absorbers every time you open a package.

Oxygen Indicators Included

The included indicator provides an easy visual check that the unopened package has maintained a low-oxygen environment.

What Does an Oxygen Absorber Actually Do?

An oxygen absorber contains an iron-based formulation that chemically reacts with oxygen. As the iron oxidizes, oxygen is permanently removed from the sealed package.

An absorber is not an air absorber. Normal air is only about 21% oxygen, so your bag may contract somewhat but will not necessarily become vacuum-tight. Most of the remaining gas is nitrogen.

This is also why a bag that doesn't visibly "suck down" can still be properly deoxygenated.

Oxygen Absorbers vs. Vacuum Sealing

Vacuum sealing removes much of the air before a package is sealed.

An oxygen absorber chemically removes the remaining oxygen afterward.

For long-term storage, a high-barrier Mylar bag plus a properly sized oxygen absorber provides protection that an ordinary vacuum bag cannot provide by itself.

You can also use oxygen absorbers with compatible vacuum packaging when appropriate.

What Foods Should I Use Them With?

Oxygen absorbers work well with properly dry, shelf-stable foods such as:

  • Rice
  • Beans and lentils
  • Wheat and other grains
  • Flour
  • Pasta
  • Oats
  • Dehydrated foods
  • Freeze-dried foods
  • Powdered milk
  • Dry mixes
  • Herbs and spices
  • Dry pet foods
  • Seeds
  • Other low-moisture shelf-stable products

Foods That Do Not Need an Oxygen Absorber

Sugar, salt, honey and cornstarch generally do not need oxygen absorbers.

Removing oxygen from granulated sugar can also contribute to hardening, so we normally recommend storing sugar without an absorber.

Important Food-Safety Note

Oxygen absorbers are intended for properly dry, shelf-stable foods. They are not a substitute for refrigeration, freezing or proper canning of moist/perishable foods.

How Many Should I Use?

More absorber capacity generally does not hurt properly dried food.

Too little capacity can.

If you're trying to decide between 300cc and 500cc for a one-gallon bag:

Rice / beans / wheat → 300cc
Freeze-dried / pasta / oats / bulky foods → 500cc
Unsure → 500cc

For unusual foods, commercial packaging or large-volume projects, contact us. We've been helping customers size oxygen absorbers since 2010.

How Quickly Do I Need to Work?

FreshUS lists approximately one hour of handling time for its self-reacting S-type absorbers.

That does not mean you should intentionally leave them exposed for an hour. Oxygen absorbers begin consuming capacity as soon as they are exposed to air.

Our rule is simple:

Open what you need, package your food, and reseal unused absorbers promptly.

A heat-sealed high-barrier bag or airtight mason jar works well for keeping unused absorbers protected.

Why Buy Oxygen Absorbers From Discount Mylar Bags?

We're not new to this product category.

We've sold Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers since 2010.

We use these products ourselves, sell them to home food-storage customers and businesses, and have spent years comparing absorber capacities, packaging methods and real-world performance.

Our goal isn't to convince you that the highest-priced absorber must be the best one.

It's to give you:

  • A quality absorber
  • Honest sizing guidance
  • Small, convenient package sizes
  • Independent performance information
  • Fair pricing
  • Real help if you have a question

Just Better Bags. And better information to go with them.

I love that the oxygen indicator in these is so clear! Some you have to squint for, but this one is bright and large.

    Oxygen absorbers

I know that oxygen absorbers do not necessarily create a vacuum in the bag but these always do, it reassures me that they are working like they're supposed to! I love these!

    Oxygen Absorber

I order 20 packs of 10 500CC oxygen absorbers and only received 19 of them. Luckily I caught the mistake before I had filled the bags with food.
